The interior of the Smart ForTwo has two major positives. One, it is upscale in a way that only Daimler can deliver. And two, it is surprisingly spacious and airy.

For such a speck of a car, the ForTwo’s dash is quite wide and unyielding. And it boasts a high level of fit and finish. Materials do not feel cheap, as they do in many vehicles of the subcompact class. And there are attractive features like the available twin periscope gauges for rpms and clock. The ForTwo also offers such premiums as leather upholstery, heated seats, and a stereo with six-disc CD changer.

As far as space goes, the cabin has plenty of leg and shoulder room for two. And the trunk offers enough volume for a couple of pieces of small luggage.

For safety, which this car needs as much as it can get, there are standard front and side thorax airbags. Crash tests results from NHTSA are yet to be reported.
